BrightIdeas is a research project for Year 12 students across Kent, Sussex and Hampshire that seeks to combine scientific literature with patient insight.ย Throughout the year, students enrolled in the programme will attend an online Launch and Mid-point Review event via Zoom, as well as an in-person 3-night summer school (subject to COVID-19 restrictions) at either the University of Kent or the University of Sussex.ย
The BrightMed programme is open to students from Year 9 to Year 13 living in Sussex and meeting certain widening participation criteria. As a โBrightMedderโ, young people will take part in regular Saturday sessions that involve knowledge sessions, activity days, lectures and seminars. There is also an opportunity to experience life as a student with a stay at the University of Sussex campus during a four-day residential summer school at the end of Year 12. The scheme also invites the opportunity to be part of a Guaranteed Interview Scheme for the medical school's undergraduate course.ย

The majority of applicants will come across ~ 5% of all the free or affordable high-quality events, courses, programmes and workshops out there! This means a whooping 95% of it is missed.
Unfortunately, this means either: a) you pay for expensive courses that are more convenient (in terms of time) and better marketed (e.g. paid advertisement), or b) you simply miss out on great free (& affordable)ย advice + support from high-performing students at top unis!
